Knowing this, Jesus invited us to retreat, to come away to a quiet place and once again abide in His grace, the free and undeserved gift that God continually offers us.

The Grace Retreat is an opportunity to take a break, relax, think, talk and pray about who we are, why we are here and what our faith has to do with it all. The Grace Retreat is for all young professionals (ages 21-35). See more here....

FROM THE MODERATOR

Time Sensitive Request for Advocacy Support to Fund Emergency Shelter Services

Lent has arrived and is the most significant season for our congregations. I also recognize that parishioners look to us for guidance in living out their faith and gospel values during Lent. This is why I am reaching out today with a request that is time sensitive. Please read on for information about three specific actions you and your parish can take to make a difference for many of our most vulnerable citizens in Minnesota.

Read the full letter from Fr. Charles Lachowitzer here, and see the fact sheet and sample bulletin announcement.

A Real Lent

Liturgically, Lent is a season. Spiritually, some call it a way of life. Whether an inner journey or an in-house parish pilgrimage, however we move through Lent — through prayer, fasting, almsgiving, works of mercy and penance — all are a means to bring us to the foot of the cross of Jesus Christ. This is a real Lent.

At the foot of the cross is every sin, everything that is wrong and all that is evil. At the foot of the cross, the original sin of Adam and Eve is played out in all the atrocities of every chapter in every history. The end of a real Lent is when we come to the foot of the cross and see how the tears of the world are mixed with the earth. It is a muddy place. It is a place where it is easy to get stuck.

WORSHIP

Guidance Regarding the Coronavirus

Many of our faithful are understandably concerned about the Coronavirus (COVID-19). There are currently no known cases in Minnesota, and we continue to monitor reports from the Centers for Disease Control. Even so, Influenza is locally prevalent, and since the Coronavirus is spread in much the same way Influenza is, it is prudent to follow the USCCB’s previous guidance on Influenza. At this time, the Archdiocese is not requiring parishes to modify their liturgical practices; if that changes, we will notify you.

Meanwhile, if pastors judge it good for the well-being of their parishioners—psychologically if not also medically—they certainly can issue parish-wide guidelines for their community. Here are some precautions they may consider:

  • Remind parishioners to stay home if they feel sick or have flu-like symptoms.
  • Suspend the Sign of Peace or offer it without touching.
  • Suspend Communion from the Chalice.
  • Discourage hand-holding during the Our Father.
  • Empty holy water fonts.

Any changes should be communicated with parish leadership, staff and parishioners. Additionally, you may wish to share the following resource with your parishioners.
