Weekly Reflection Questions

  1. What were the disciples discussing as they walked the road to the village of Emmaus? (all that had happened in Jerusalem, the death and resurrection of Jesus)  

  2. As they were walking, do you think they truly believed Jesus had been raised from the dead?  

  3. Who do they meet along the road? (Jesus)

  4. How do the disciples describe what happened in their hearts when the man opened the Scriptures to them? (their hearts were burning)

  5. When did the disciples finally recognize Jesus? (in the breaking of the bread)

  3. Silently think about the ways you deny Jesus and ask Him to help you overcome these denials in prayer.

  1. Remember a time when you lost something really special. As a family, let each person share the item they lost and encourage each person to share feelings about the loss. If the item is still lost, ask St. Helena, the finder of the True Cross of Jesus, to pray to God to help find it.

  2. What do you think it means when the gospel writer says Jesus became “perturbed and deeply troubled” when he saw Mary and the others with her weeping?

  3. Who does Jesus talk to just before he says “Lazarus, come out!”?

  4. What things in Lazarus’s story are similar to the story of Jesus’s Resurrection? (for example, dead for a number of days, wrapped in burial cloths, buried in a cave that was sealed with a stone)
