Born April 12, 1932 in Minneapolis, MN.  Passed away peacefully April 16, 2021, at the age of 89. Preceded in death by parents Leo and Agnes Carlin, brothers Tom Carlin and Bing Carlin, sister Patricia Carlin, niece Sara Carlin, and nephew Paul Carlin.  Survived by her husband of 62 years, Jim Seidel Sr., son Jim Seidel Jr. and his wife Annie, granddaughters Maggie and Molly, and numerous nieces and nephews. Lucia was the most wonderful spouse, mother, grandmother, sibling, aunt, and friend.  She was the loveliest of ladies with a kind heart, wonderful sense of humor, immense trust in God, and deep love for her family.  Lucia graduated from Annunciation grade school, Holy Angels high school, and the College of St. Catherine.  She worked as a kindergarten teacher in the Saint Paul public school system and as a substitute teacher at Burroughs Elementary School in Minneapolis, prior to becoming a mother.  Later in life, Lucia served on the boards of the Minneapolis League of Catholic Women, St. Therese of New Hope Nursing Homes, the St. Thomas Academy Mothers Club, as an active advocate for NET Ministries, and she is a Lady of the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem.  Lucia had the special gift of hospitality and conversations with her made you feel appreciated, encouraged, and loved.  She will be deeply missed by all who knew her as she is now welcomed to the greatest celebration of all by God’s grace.  Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, participation in the private Mass of Christian Burial will only be by online livestream, not by attending in person.  The livestream will occur on Thursday, April 22, at 1:30pm below.  In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Our Lady of Grace Fr. Robert T. Cassidy Endowment Fund.

John T. “Jack” Whelan, Jr. Funeral

Age 88 of Edina, MN, passed away peacefully on March 16, 2021. Jack was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 57 years, Ann S. Whelan and his parents, John and Marie Whelan. He is survived by children Tracy (Sam) Cefaratti, Sue (Scott) Williams, John (Pamela) Whelan, Molly (Jeff) Thuma, Trish (Dan) Barrett; grandchildren Katie (Kevin) Hardy, Sammy Cefaratti, Mary (Pat) Spalding, Emily (Drew) Karel, Grace and Laura Williams, Josie, Lilly and Tom Thuma, Patrick, Meghan and Bridget Barrett; great grandchild Owen Hardy; and his sister, Lois Whelan.

Jack was born and raised in Mt. Lebanon, PA. After graduating from Mt. Lebanon High School in 1950, he attended Villanova University, graduating in 1954 with a Bachelor of Business Administration. Post-college, Jack served in the US Army for two years, and then moved to Omaha, NE for a Sales job with Mine Safety Appliances Co. This job launched a successful career in Sales and Sales Management, and led him to 3M Company where he worked for 32 years until his retirement.  

While living in Omaha, Jack met and married the lovely Ann Strang. After marriage, they moved to St. Louis, where their five children were born. From St. Louis, Jack’s career took them to Western Springs, IL, for ten years and then to Edina, MN. Jack’s greatest joy was his family and his love was felt by all. He took great care of Ann and his children and was a proud and supportive father and grandfather, creating many wonderful memories through the years. In addition to family, his passions included golf, bridge, summers at Portage Lake, MI, travel, reading and time with friends. Jack’s outgoing personality, optimism, and love of life served him well through his years. In his words, “Life has been good for Jack Whelan”. Rest in peace Dad – we love you!
